DID YOU KNOW? The demonym for the people of Australia is Australian, Ozzie or Aussie.
Type of State
Australia is a multi-ethnic state because there are more than 11 different ethnic groups found in the country. The shape of this country is considered to be a fragmented or compact state. Due to the fact that the country has some islands that are separated from the main land by water, it can be considered a fragmented state. It can also be considered a compact state because the main land is almost the shape of a circle and the distance from the center to any boundary does not vary much. Since Australia is surrounded by water and not states, there are no boundary problems. It also helps that the main land is compact because it helps the countries communication.

National Anthem“Advance Australia Fair” LyricsBy: Peter Dodds McCormick
1. Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free; We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea; Our land abounds in Nature’s gifts Of beauty rich and rare; In history’s page, let every stage Advance Australia fair! In joyful strains then let us sing, “Advance Australia fair!” 2. Beneath our radiant southern Cross, We’ll toil with hearts and hands; To make this Commonwealth of ours Renowned of all the lands; For those who’ve come across the seas We’ve boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combine To advance Australia fair. In joyful strains then let us sing “Advance Australia fair!” More About The Anthem

The FlagThere are three major elements/symbols on the Australian flag which are the Union Jack, the Commonwealth Star and the Southern Cross. The Union Jack is in the upper left corner and represents the history of Australia being a British settlement. The Commonwealth/Federation star is below the Union Jack, and has seven points on it to symbolize the unity of the six states and the territories of Australia. Finally, there is the Southern Cross which is the white stars on the right hand of the flag. This represents the constellation of the five stars that can only be seen from the southern hemisphere and reminds the people of Australia’s geography.
